korea stuck in korea until morning. missed our connection. got to see the judo live on tv. I owe Ole an appolagie for doubting him since he just pulled off gold. I am glad I emailed him this morning to wish him luck. The brazilian eliminated Takeshi in the first round making one of my predictions true. | | Monday, August 11th, 2008 | | 9:47 am |
Time To Fly Leaving for the Airport to go to Beijing in 45 minutes. I wish I knew what I was forgetting. I have my passport/visa, event tickets, clothing, US Flag and 2 cameras. So I guess whatever it is isn't that important. BTW. Last Nights Judo was a huge disappointment. Ryan Reeser was supposed to be a medal contender, and instead he got eliminated in his first round. Val Gotay said good bye to her husband and kids moved out of her family home to train and she still only won 1 round.
Today's line up is even stranger. Though I am kind of hoping Takashi gets his arm busted in that first match. He is an embarassment to Japan. But all in all its like half the toughest fighters ended up in pool A and the other half got evenly spread through pools B, C, and D. What is up with that? In any case if you want to route for our American, Travis, it is okay, he is much less of an Ass as compared to the other American's in that division. If you are betting, however, I might put my money on the Dutch fighter who won the last two worlds, sorry I can't spell his name, but he is a nice guy and supper strong, the only question is is he training like he wants it. Other good bets are Roman Gontuik 04 Silver medalist, Tiago Camilo who I am counting on to break Takeshi's arm. Some one like Maddaloni or Badra might surprise us, but as nice a guy as he is I don't think Ole is going to pull it off this year. I don't know most of the eastern European and central Asian fighters but they have been pretty dominant so far, but normally I would look to the Russian and the Georgian fighters to flagship that part of the world but right now they might be a bit distracted.
Places where I would have done something different: Japan should have sent their number 2 guy. He can't be any worse than Takeshi and everybody and their cousin doesn't know his weaknesses. Germany also has a deep pool of talent in this division and could have shaken it up. GB sending Euan really? I mean really? | | Saturday, August 9th, 2008 | | 9:21 pm |
Russia/Georgia Politics Olympics I am very very disapointed in the Russian's and Georgians. To declare war on the second day of the Olypmics is in total violation of the spirit of the games, both their governments should be banned from attending the next games. While I don't want to punish their athletes, all other officials should suffer. | | 4:07 pm |
Beijing So I am getting excited about Beijing. Watched some of the Judo last night on the internet. It was the light weight rounds. In the first round the US competitor defeated the 5th ranked fighter in the world from Japan. After that Mr. Williams did what everyone expected which was win one round and then get eliminated, but what guy to take down with you. Saw we swept women's saber, who know we were so good at being French? After weeks of being anti social and working 60+ hour weeks so I could enjoy my vacation the time is almost here. ;-) | | Monday, July 14th, 2008 | | 9:52 pm |
Door Prize Won the door prize at the dinner I was at tonight. Anybody know what you do with a Wii? | | Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | | 5:04 pm |
two weeks without frisbee 2 weeks without frisbee... I went to the gym today because I was missing my weekly exersize. | | 5:01 pm |
oops So I got Joe's message about beach frisbee. Thinking it was at the normal time, I didn't log into live journal to check for directions until after lunch. At which point I see the lets meet at 1pm. ... I hope beach frisbee was instead of normal otherwise I just missed that too. | | Sunday, June 15th, 2008 | | 10:30 am |
Political BS Been reading a lot of election news/bs out there and thought I would inform some of my fellow citizens: 1. Candidates say they are going to cut the budget and balance it... >2/3 of the budget is "manditory" spending "Social Security, Medicare, Interest on the Debt..." of that <1/3 that congress can change year to year our 2008 Budget deficit was ~1/3 of that. While cutting spending is good, unless you completely shut down the military you aren't going to balance the budget with cuts. Interesting factors, 2006 had a much lower budget deficit than 2008. Since the government with a few exceptions* collects 18.5% of the GDP in taxes. The easiest way to balance the budget is to grow the F*cking economy, which our current politions are clueless about. Option 2 is cut Social Security and Medicaide** 2. Carly Fiorina is seen with McCain in the news today. How Ironic she was such a bad CEO of HP that she got fired by the board, so now she has moved to the one area which has absolutely no accountability for results: politics.
*Exceptions to the 18.5%, the first 4 years of clinton were closer to 19% and the first 4 years of bush were closer to 17.5% Currently we are in the low 18% range. * Clinton's budget surpluses in the 2nd term had a lot to do with Cap Gains Taxes which stopped with the 2001/2 stop market crash. Bush's Tax cuts just came at the exact wrong time in history. **Social Security and Medicaide grow around 6.6% a year, which is usually higher than inflation. | | Sunday, June 1st, 2008 | | 3:25 pm |

Bday So I am 27 as of yesterday. Had a pretty good day. Went out to lunch with my dad. In the evening went out to GB then Mini-golf with Dave, Kyoshi, Frost, the boy, et al. Amusingly to me at least none of them knew it was my birthday, but I had a good time anyways. Today I have been pretty lazy. Looking forward to Frisbee, then at 6:30 my family is doing a joint Mother's day birthday dinner. | | Sunday, May 4th, 2008 | | 1:23 pm |
Moving Fun Just thought I would pass on a few of the highlights for those of you who haven't moved in a while. The U-hauls doors didn't really shut, but we didn't fall out. The U-haul didn't fit into the parking garage a the new place so we had to park across the street and carry. My new place is on the third floor, and ramps would only get us to the second. Getting refrigerators up stairs sucks even more than getting couches through doors. Done in record pace from pick up to return of the Uhaul was 4.5 hours. Still have a bunch of little stuff at my parents. | | Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 | | 12:22 am |
B trip Suckage Was at the airport at 5:40am this morning. Had my meetings in, caught the 7:50pm flight back, my connection in Reno was 2 hours late... So my parking tag said I was there 17 hours. | | Thursday, May 1st, 2008 | | 10:20 pm |

Freeware Can any one recommend a free data recovery program. My dad deleted a bunch of photos by accident, and doesn't want to pay the $50 for the recovery software. | | Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 | | 10:58 pm |
Squaw Went to Squaw on Thursday and Friday. It was snowing, I was skiing, all was good... except for the price... but it had powder. | | Saturday, December 1st, 2007 | | 8:42 am |
Week So this past week was besides the fun and excitment of the Silicom event on Tuesday and my brother in laws brithday party on Wed was long and fairly brutal. I did what I said I would and got one of my designs out the door to the drafters before lunch on Friday. I also placed an order for some one to build one of my design, it is the first one since I started there in March. However all these fun milestones meant I was at the office before 7am on wed and thur, Thursday night at least I didn't leave until after 9pm. Last night after work I went out and had some Chinese food with my dad, then crashed.
